Intellectual Disability

INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY is a Federal Category under which children may be eligible for Special Education Services.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) defines Intellectual Disability as significant below-average general intellectual functioning existing concurrently with deficits in adap- tive behavior and manifested during the developmental period, which adversely affects a child’s educational performance.
